My philosophy of Architecture has always been rooted in the long-term happiness, health, and prosperity of the inhabitants of my buildings.
I strive to design buildings which enhance the lives of their users, buildings which provide beautiful backgrounds and solid containers for the unfolding of life’s daily dramas.
Construction projects are invariably stressful, personally challenging, and require a great deal of time, money, and energy. Homeowners live with the results of their construction projects for years. A person is literally surrounded by the successes and failures of the design throughout their ownership. When one family moves on, the home will remain and new owners will use it as a vessel for their lives.
As the years pass, time will amplify the strengths and weaknesses of each design decision. For that reason, I have always felt a tremendous responsibility on every project.
A home is a lot more than a building.
As an Architect, I approach the design process with reverence, humility, and excitement for the incredible opportunity to help people create their homes.
I do not dictate form or function to my clients. Instead, I seek to draw out those decisions from them and find the project’s intuitive path to a great design. That begins by gaining a deep understanding of their needs, wants, tastes, and lifestyle.
Then I combine that with a thorough analysis of the site and appropriate research into local codes and restrictions. Once that is complete, we have established the goals of the project, identified the constraints, and have a deep understanding of the site which is to be our canvas.
From there we work through a iterative design process intended to bring the best possible design to life.
I utilize 3D modeling, renderings, highly legible drawings, hand-sketching and a variety of other tools to ensure that my clients understand the design as it comes together.
Additionally, I provide guidance and assistance as we work with other construction professionals and prepare the clients to connect and have a successful experience with their builder.
Architecture sits at a rich and dynamic crossroad of beauty and utility, from the mundane and unyielding requirements of building codes and construction reality to the highly aspirational art of shaping the human experience. Our homes are the embodiment of that: they are a place where human beings have a unique opportunity to shape their own space and create their own environment for themselves and their family.
